What Is People for Urban Progress?
In order to make the most out of waste produced by cities, People for Urban Progress has set out to reuse these materials and give them back to the people as something useful again. Founded by Michael and Jessica Bricker in the fall of 2008, this organization has done a lot of great work in reducing our overall waste.
People for Urban Progress operates under the principle idea that “Used does not equal unusable”. Thus, today they operate as a non-profit group dedicated towards the betterment of their city by building new things out of the old.
Just recently, this organization has worked with Amtrak to repurpose 6,080 leather seats. Their work helped to reduce the pollution that would be have left behind if the seats were to have been thrown away. Today these seats have a new life as durable leather bags fit for everything from commuting to long summer hikes.
