Kia Forte Fuel Economy
There are two different engine options available in the Kia Forte, which affects both the horsepower and the gas mileage of different trim levels.
The first engine, which is available in the LX and the S trims, is an Atkinson Cycle 2.0L inline 4-cylinder. This is able to produce 147 horsepower and maintains an EPA-estimated 37 MPG highway and 29 MPG city.1
The second engine is available in the EX, the top trim level of the Kia Forte. It’s a standard 2.0L inline 4-cylinder. While it bumps horsepower up to 164, it also reduces gas mileage slightly to an EPA-estimated 33 MPG highway and 25 MPG city.1
Needless to say, even the more powerful option in the Kia Forte gets some pretty good gas mileage. You won’t have to worry about blowing too much money at the gas station each month.
A few different enhancements are included in the Forte powertrain to ensure it makes the most out of its fuel. The first is available gasoline direct injection or GDI.
GDI is an advanced version of some of the multipoint injection systems that used to be so common. It injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber as opposed to the intake port. This prevents fuel from unnecessarily being lost.
GDI is aided by dual continuously variable valve timing. This feature may sound complicated, but its purpose is to simplify intake and exhaust, thus cutting out on even more inefficiencies.
Not only does the engine have these optimizing features, but it also has an available electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic®. The automatic transmission keeps shifting smooth and uncomplicated, thus keeping your Forte from wasting added gas.
Forte MPG: Choose Your Drive Mode
The Kia Forte likes to provide drivers with a strong sense of choice, which is why the Drive Mode Select feature is available. This essentially allows you to choose different drive modes, each altering the balance of power and fuel economy.
Normal mode is exactly what you’d think—it lets the Kia Forte do its thing without any adjustments. Sport mode, on the other hand, is more attuned to a sense of power, which can affect the car’s overall efficiency.
Eco mode is the last mode, and it makes a point to cut out unnecessary inefficiencies that can eke out even more fuel from the gas tank.
