What Is the JD Power EVX Ownership Experience Study?
What does being rated number one in EV ownership experience mean? JD Power wanted to know whether people who owned EVs would be likely to buy the same brand again. They embarked on a study from October to November 2020, which focused on seven major factors, including accuracy of stated battery range and availability of public charging stations. Additional factors were:
- Battery range
- Cost of ownership
- Driving enjoyment
- Ease of charging at home
- Vehicle quality and reliability
With a sample size of over 9,000 participants, the study surveyed EV owners who had model years from 2015 to 2021. Models were rated on a 1,000-point scale for owner satisfaction with mass-market battery electric vehicles (BEV) having an average rating of 730.
How Did the Kia Niro EV Compare?
The Kia Niro EV was rated number one in the mass market BEV category with a score of 782, well above the average. This Kia vehicle beat out models by Chevy and Hyundai in the same category and came out almost 40 points ahead of the roadster in second place.
It’s clear to see that those who purchase Kia electric vehicles are more satisfied with their purchases than those who purchased from a competitor.

The Kia Niro EV won this award for having the best owner experience, but it entered the competition by being an incredibly efficient electric model. This Kia SUV is a fully electric set of wheels, which means there’s no gas engine and the machine runs exclusively on battery power.
With an Electric Drive Motor, this compact SUV puts out 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque. This puts it neck-and-neck with some combustion engines in the compact SUV category.
In the arena of efficiency, the Kia Niro EV boasts an EPA-estimated 123 city/102 highway MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent), adding up to an EPA-estimated range of 239 miles.1 This means you can spend hours on the road exploring nature trails with the family without having to think about pulling into every charging station you pass.
When it comes to keeping your Kia vehicle charged, using AC current normal charging time, you’ll have a full charge in a little over nine and a half hours. This means you can plug it in when you head to bed for the night and be ready for the commute in the morning.
