Your Kia Optima is running perfectly, but what if one of those dreaded dashboard lights appear, will you know what to do? These helpful indicators work with the car to communicate when there is a problem with your Optima.
To help our customers in the Avon, Indianapolis, and Plainfield areas keep their Optima running smoothly, we at Andy Mohr Kia created this useful dashboard light guide.
What's Does That Light Mean?
There are some dashboard lights everyone should already know of including the turn signals and high beam indicators.
The others may need more explanation for you to understand what your vehicle is trying to tell you. Once you are able to notice and decipher this communication, you and your vehicle will be better off for it.
Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
This indicator is “ABS” within a circle and illuminates on ignition. If there’s a malfunction in this system indicator will illuminate and remain lit. Your normal braking system will still work, but you’ll want to contact our dealership.
Eco
This active eco indicator is not equipped on trim levels. When active, the indicator illuminates green and is communicating high fuel efficiency driving. It assists you to drive at the most economical rate possible.
Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)
When there’s a malfunction in your electric parking brake, this indicator will turn on. If the light continuously remains on, have the system checked.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
This light looks like a car driving on a winding road. It will light with ignition. When it is active, during slippery or low traction conditions it monitors driving conditions. If it won’t go off it is malfunctioning.
Key Out
When the engine start button is in the ACC or ON position, or if any doors are open, the system checks for the smart key. This indicator will flash when the smart key is not in the vehicle.
Low Engine Oil Level
This indicator appears as a dripping canister on water. When this light illuminates, the engine oil level should be checked. If the light comes on, check the level and add the correct oil if low.
Malfunction Indicator Lamp
This light looks like an engine. If illuminated, it means a potential problem has been detected in the emission control system.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
This illumination indicates the pressure in one or more of your tires is low and will need to be inflated immediately. It appears as a like an exclamation point within brackets.
Turn Off Your Dashboard Warnings
Dashboard lights are the language our vehicles use to communicate with us. They often just signify when a feature is engaged or when it isn’t. In the case of prolonged illumination from any of these indicators signifies a problem with your Optima. Heed these warning signs to prevent irreparable damage to your car.
