Kia Rio vs Hyundai Accent

Kia Rio vs Hyundai Accent

Kia Rio models

If you’re looking to zip around the crowded Avon, Plainfield, and Indianapolis streets in a subcompact car, look no further than the 2018 Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent.

To help you easily discover which of these two great sedan options is the right one for you, Andy Mohr Kia has composed this Rio vs Accent comparison.

2018 Kia Rio vs Hyundai Accent: Safety

Both the Rio and Accent keep safety in mind with available forward collision alerts and autonomous emergency braking systems to prevent or lessen the impact of an impending collision.

In the event of a crash, both the Rio and Accent offer standard driver and front passenger advanced airbags; and driver and front passenger seat-mounted, side-impact airbags. These only protect the front seat, though. Unlike the Hyundai Accent, the Kia Rio includes full-length side curtain airbags that protect all passengers, even the ones in the back.

Both sedans also feature front and rear crumple zones that dissipate energy before it can reach the passenger. The Rio includes side impact door beams that add a similar kind of technology to the front and back side doors. As the Accent doesn’t list this as a feature, passengers would likely be more exposed should a side impact occur.

2018 Rio vs Accent: Technology

Both the 2018 Kia Rio interior and Accent make even the lengthiest commutes fun with Bluetooth® smartphone connectivity for streaming music, making calls, and accessing texts.

The Rio, however, combines all of this with the available UVO hands-free connectivity suite. UVO allows drivers to access several voice-activated features, including:

  • Phone and texting
  • Music streaming
  • Parking minder
  • Vehicle diagnostics

The Accent comes with available Blue Link®, a smartphone app with access to vehicle information. However, it doesn’t link to the car to include the hands-free capabilities UVO does.

UVO also comes with a teen driver package, which allows parents to create a curfew alert and set radio volume and speed limits. This is a feature the Accent lacks, so parents would have less control when the kids borrow the car.

Interior Comforts

When you’re choosing a new set of wheels, it’s important that you’re comfortable in the cockpit. Both sedans keep you warm and cozy with available heated seating for combatting frigid Midwest winters.

The Kia Rio adds a little extra in summer, as well, with standard solar control glass that reduces interior heat buildup when parked under the hot sun. The Hyundai Accent doesn’t offer this kind of feature, leaving drivers to wait for the air conditioning to cool their car down.

The Rio also makes you feel at home with the ability to personalize your seating options. This sedan includes standard tricot and woven cloth seating, with patterned embroidery for a unique look. Drivers can upgrade to the available embossed tricot premiu

m cloth seat for a more sophisticated interior, or the available red trim and partial leather seats for a sportier feel.

The Accent doesn’t make any additional seating options available aside from the standard cloth option, so drivers don’t have the opportunity to customize their vehicle’s interior to the same extent as the Rio.
