2018 Kia Soul Trim Levels
After extensive research and careful test drives, you’ve decided to don the signature Kia Tiger Nose front grille and purchase a 2018 Kia Soul for your Avon and Plainfield commutes. The final step is deciding which Kia Soul trim level meets your needs.
The Soul offers three: The Base, + (plus), and ! (exclaim). No one trim is better than any other, but they do each have something unique to offer Indianapolis area drivers.
To help you make this final decision, Andy Mohr Kia broke down the differences between the three different trims in this review.
2018 Kia Soul Base Trim
The base trim of the Kia Soul comes with a 1.6L Direct Injection 4-Cylinder engine that produces 130 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission that’ll get drivers an EPA-estimated 24 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway.1
Drivers can opt for a 6-speed automatic transmission, which comes with Sportmatic® and allows drivers to control their vehicle in a limited manual mode when desired.
Drivers can also take advantage of the Bluetooth® wireless technology for playing their favorite music or taking phone calls, and turn up the tunes using the steering-wheel-mounted audio controls.
Kia Soul +
The + trim takes everything in the base and cranks it up a few notches.
It operates with a 2.0L Direct Injection 4-Cylinder engine that generates 161 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. Even though it includes a more powerful engine, it actually improves city fuel economy to an EPA-estimated 25 MPG with the 6-speed Sportmatic® automatic transmission.1
The + trim also offers two double-toned exterior color options in addition to nine other single-toned color options and adds on the UVO eServices infotainment system with 7-inch touch screen.
This system acts as a personal assistant, with voice-command access to many features, including music, phone calls, messaging, vehicle diagnostics, and navigation.
Additionally, Kia Drive Wise is brand-new for 2018 and available only in the Kia Soul +. This safety tech suite offers great available features for preventing collisions or lessening their effects. It includes the following systems:
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Forward Collision Warning
- Lane Departure Warning System
- Smart Cruise Control
Drivers can also enjoy hassle-free access to their vehicle with the remote keyless entry, and easily back out of any parking space with the rear-camera display.
2018 Soul !
Building on the + trim, the Kia Soul ! has a 1.6L Turbo Direct Injection 4-Cylinder Engine that generates 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.
It continues to improve on fuel economy with the 7-speed Sportmatic® dual-clutch transmission, obtaining an EPA-estimated 25 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.1
While this trim doesn’t offer the double-toned exterior color options, it does let you ride in style with black-leather seat trim with cloth accents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and piano black interior accents.
