Kia Sportage Dashboard Light Guide
Every vehicle, including the Kia Sportage, comes with a series of dashboard indicators that will alert you whenever there is something you need to know about your vehicle while you're driving around Avon, Indianapolis, and Plainfield. Regardless of the type of vehicle you own, it's very important to know what these indicators mean.
Although you'll be able to learn all about them by consulting your owner's manual, our team at Andy Mohr Kia wants to make things easier for you, so we've put together this handy Kia Sportage dashboard light guide. Read on to learn about some of the indicators you'll see and what they mean!
Electronic Stability Control
This system is very similar to traction control -- it assists you in maintaining control over your vehicle in poor conditions by controlling the wheels as needed. When it's activated, you'll see a small red car with swerving tire marks coming from behind it.
Idle Stop and Go
This unique feature is typically found in trucks and large SUVs. It shuts down the car’s engine whenever it’s stopped in order to preserve fuel efficiency. You’ll know when the feature is activated if you see a large green “A” in the middle of a rounded arrow (for auto stop).
Active Eco Indicator
When the green “ECO” indicator appears, it means the vehicle’s fuel-saving ECO mode is activated. This may result in less powerful acceleration as the system works to improve your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. You can turn this option on and off with the press of a button.
Downhill Brake Control Indicator
The Downhill Brake Control system makes it easier for you to control your vehicle when moving down a steep hill. It eliminates the need to constantly press the brake pedal, instead letting you focus on your steering. You’ll know the system is activated when you see an illuminated green SUV going down a sharp-looking hill.
Engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp
The engine malfunction indicator lamp, more commonly known as the check engine light, appears when there’s an issue with the emission control system. It shows a small yellow engine with the word “CHECK” beneath. If you see this indicator and it persists, it’s best to schedule an appointment with an expert. He or she will be able to evaluate any issue right away.
Icy Road Warning Light
This light activates when it detects potentially icy conditions (if the temperature falls below 39.2 oF, for instance). You’ll see a yellow snowflake against a road and hear a chiming noise. When this indicator appears, it’s best to drive cautiously.
