2018 Kia Sportage Miles Per Gallon
The Andy Mohr Kia team has put together this review to show Avon, Indianapolis, and Plainfield drivers what kind of gas mileage the 2018 Kia Sportage can get.
Kia Sportage MPG: Front-Wheel Drive
Standard in the Kia Sportage is a front-wheel drivetrain. While it may not quite have the handling abilities of all-wheel drive, it does offer one big benefit in the form of added fuel economy.
The base trim level in the Sportage get the best gas mileage of all. With its 2.4L 4-cylinder engine, it maintains an EPA-estimated 30 MPG highway and 23 MPG city.1 The second trim level, the EX, has the same engine, but fuel economy drops slightly to an EPA-estimated 29 MPG highway and 22 MPG city.1
The SX Turbo is the top trim level in the Kia Sportage. It has a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 240 horsepower as opposed to the 181 horsepower of lower trims. It also maintains an EPA-estimated 26 MPG highway and 21 MPG city.1
All-Wheel Drive MPG
Clearly, the standard front-wheel drive configuration in the Kia Sportage knows how to balance its power with its fuel economy. However, what happens when you want a little extra stability, too? Then, you’ll have to add in Dynamax™ All-Wheel Drive (AWD), which is available in all trims.
Dynamax™ AWD uses sensors to read changing road conditions. It can then determine how much power needs to be sent to your wheels to navigate snow, sand, mud, or other typically unsafe road conditions.
Sportage models equipped with Dynamax™ AWD will have different fuel economy ratings. The LX and EX trim levels, for instance, will both maintain an EPA-estimated 25 MPG highway and 21 MPG city.1 Meanwhile, the SX Turbo trim will maintain an EPA-estimated 23 MPG highway and 20 MPG city.1
Overall, you’ll have a slight decrease in MPG with this configuration, but extra agile handling to make up for it.
2018 Sportage: Choose Your Drive Mode
No matter whether you choose the FWD or the AWD drive model, you’ll still have Drive Mode Select to help you alternate driving styles.
The Normal mode operates without making any adjustments to your car’s performance. You’ll be able to achieve the standard Sportage MPG.
Sport mode is a little bit different. It optimizes performance for a faster, nimbler feel. However, a little bit of gas will be lost in the process.
Lastly, you can choose Eco mode. If you’re trying to save money on gas, this is the way to go. It cuts out inefficiencies and amps up your fuel economy to save every last drop.
